As the Augusta National finished hosting the Women’s amateur tournament this past weekend, my thoughts are about the continuing growth of women’s sports and women's golf, and also about the women that have lead the sport throughout history.

I remember seeing the name Patty Berg for the first time on the clubs in my mother’s golf bag. From her first clubs when she was a teen, all the way through her adulthood, my mom's clubs were Patty Berg’s woods and irons. I started golfing when I was 3 years old and even before I was big enough, I was obsessed with those Patty Berg’s! I was convinced my little kid clubs were holding back my game.

In the summertime, I golfed every week with grandparents and recall being told numerous times by them that Patty Berg was the greatest female golfer in history. She was a founding member of the LPGA, and from 1937 to 1961, she dominated the game with 57 LPGA and WPGA tournament wins. She won 15 majors during her career

With the addition of the Nebraska Cornhuskers early this spring, the Big 10 will now have a conference championship game for the first time.   On December 3, the winner of each division will play in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium to determine the Big 10 champion!

The Leaders & Legends divisions will comprise the Big 10 conference with 6 teams each.  Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, & Northwestern make up the Legends division. The Leaders division includes Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, & Wisconsin.

The city of Indianapolis will be the center of attention to determine who will be playing in the Rose Bowl or possibly the BCS Championship.  The atmosphere inside Lucas Oil Stadium for the inaugural Big 10 Championship Game will be more intense than it will be on TV.  Don't miss out on your opportunity to see this once in a lifetime event.

The month of August has begun, the hot summer has arrived, and three Grand Slam Tennis events have already been played.  At this time of year, residents of New York and tennis fans around the globe prepare for the US Open Tennis Tournament in Flushing, Queens.

For newcomers and the experienced guest, do you know how to plan out your day at the US Open?  Where you should sit or what to see or where to eat?  Here is our list of things to keep in mind before you make your plans to the US Open.

After many long months of talks, rumors, hesitation, and excitement, the owners and the NFLPA have agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement, formally ending the NFL Lockout. Starting the week of July 25, teams can now negotiate with all free agents & draft picks, make trades, and most importantly, start training camp.

The Green Bay Packers can now start planning on repeating as Super Bowl champions.  In the world of the NFL, it is very difficult to win the Super Bowl in back-to-back years.   The Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, & New York Jets are all teams who can win this season.

The British Open is the oldest tournament of the four major golf championships. Established in 1860 at Prestwick Golf Club, the Open Championship (more commonly called), has become a fan favorite for years. The design of each course used during the Open always excites and baffles fans, as well as the players. The golfers have to battle with strong winds, deep bunkers, high grass in the fairways, and exceptionally strong rough.

Don't change the resolution on your monitor.  You just read that correctly.  The Pittsburgh Pirates are in first place!  This is not the first week of the season.  It's the morning of July 19.

After 18 consecutive seasons where the Pittsburgh Pirates finished the year with a losing record, they are on pace not only to finish with a winning record, but to also win the National League Central Division for the first time.   Back in 1992, things were looking great for the Pirates.  They finished with a record of 96-66, which won them the National League East Division.  However, for the third straight year, they lost the 1992 NLCS to the Atlanta Braves in one of the greatest playoff series of all-time.
